Whenever it comes round to that time of year when you are on the lookout for cheap beach vacations, you can free yourself up from a lot of searching, and keep yourself from being inundated by offers by following a proper procedure.

You should eliminate certain criteria before you even start searching, as this will not waste your precious time by looking at tempting offers that are out of budget.

What would make a great vacation choice for your family? A cheap vacation? Long distance flights will be a no-no, so it's probably best to stick to short distance flying, or even better, go by car, although be wary of those higher fuel bills.

A lot of beach locations have won awards. Some have national reputations. Others have international reputations. If you have kids you may want to pick somewhere that caters more for their interests, whether it's fun donkey rides on the beach or a childrens' activity club which they can join. Younger children will relish the fact that they are in a different location. This will be vacation enough for them, so they won't really have any concept of a cheap or expensive vacation.

Well, the same mightened be true for image conscious older children, so for them it may be a good idea to find out what they would like out of a holiday destination, and tweak your decision accordingly.

For single travellers, this opens up the possibilities of staying in nearby beach huts, which can drastically cut down on the accommodation costs. If theres no huts, maybe hostels could cater for your digs.

Nearly all beach areas have some rental choices close by, so if you are happy with some self catering, the costs of hotel staff and tipping can be forgotten about.

To reflect, if firstly you decide what you want from your holiday, then forget famous locations, think more along the lines of rental accommodation, you'll have your choice of cheap beach vacations with only a few nights work.
